Big Band Sounds is a traditional swing band consisting of 15 members; 6 brass, 5 saxes, piano, bass, drums and vocalist. It has an extensive library of dance music, including swinging jazz of the 30's and 40's dance bands (think Benny Goodman, Count Basie, the Dorsey Brothers...), latin numbers (cha-chas, bossa novas, merengues, etc.), waltzes, polkas, and some popular rock tunes.
The band was formed by Red Raville in 1986 and has performed concerts and private events (weddings, anniversaries, receptions, and ballroom dances) from Lake Placid to Corning, NY, including the 2006 Syracuse Blues Festival and Utica Monday Night's Opening Gala in 2005. I have been playing lead Alto Sax in this group since 2006, and used to sub with this band for 6 years prior to that, and I have been the musical director since 2014.
