Essential Studies for Orchestra is based on the lesson book that I developed for band. It is designed to be used with 1st and 2nd year students, and is a product of collaboration with Alyssa Jutting, who is an orchestra teacher in Norwich, NY. It combines the best exercises, approaches, and literature that I’ve used with band, but converted everything to orchestra terms, including a proper sequence of note and rhythm development. There is a lot of practice included with every group of new rhythms and pitch sets (scales) that are introduced.
